Renting a flat in Kolkata: common questions
What is the cheapest area to rent a flat in Kolkata that you cover?
Dum Dum and Kestopur offer the lowest rents among our areas, with 1BHK flats from around ₹7,000 and 2BHK from ₹10,000 a month. Both have good bus and auto connectivity, and Dum Dum has metro and suburban rail.
Can I rent a flat as a bachelor?
Yes. Many owners in Kestopur, Baguiati and Dum Dum rent to bachelors, and a growing number of New Town societies allow working professionals in shared flats. Every listing shows who the owner is comfortable with so you only visit suitable flats.
Do you have furnished flats?
Yes, from basic beds-and-wardrobes to fully equipped flats with AC, fridge, washing machine and Wi-Fi. Furnished flats are most common in Salt Lake, New Town and near DLF where IT professionals rent short to medium term.
What notice period is standard?
One month on both sides after an initial lock-in of three to six months is the norm in an 11-month agreement. We suggest getting this written into the agreement along with the deposit refund terms.
Do you help with the rent agreement?
We guide you on the standard 11-month leave and licence format, what to include (rent, deposit, notice, maintenance, repairs) and where to get it notarised or registered. The agreement itself is between you and the owner.
How do I know the listing is genuine?
We speak to the owner or broker before a listing goes live, ask for current photos and confirm the flat is still available before your visit. If a flat is rented out, we take it down the same day.
